About

Gabriele is a Post Doc in Inbot (Industrial Robotics Facility), and he is currently working on Masterly, an EU-funded project aiming to develop flexible robotic solutions enhanced with AI-driven advanced control and perception capabilities that will allow them to act autonomously, handling a large variety of parts varying in size, shape and material. Previously, he lead to a successful completion Softmanbot, an EU-funded project aiming at automating industrial activities that deal with soft material handling.  In this project, AI is applied to computer vision to guide robotic arms to complete tasks that humans can easily perform, such as wrinkles detection and removal.

Prior to this position, Gabriele completed his Ph.D. in computer vision at University College London (UCL), investigating computer vision methods applied to liquid-phase electron microscopy. The research focused on the development of 3D reconstruction techniques to recover the 3D models of objects at the nanoscale imaged in their liquid native state, and thus free to move.  He spent the last year of his Ph.D. at the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) in Barcelona, investigating the possibility to apply AI-based techniques to his research project.

Between 2010 and 2016 Gabriele studied as an Electronic engineer first, and a Mechatronics engineer then at Politecnico di Torino (PoliTO). During his MSc, Gabriele won an Erasmus Extra EU scholarship to spend 5 months in Brasil at Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Minas Gerais (PUC Minas) improving the resolution of a sonic wheel mounted on a diesel motor.
